Chamberlain Gardens is a park at the heart of a council estate in Ladywood between Ladywood Road and Monument Road. Built mostly to the designs of Birmingham City Council's architect A G Sheppard-Fidler during the early 1960s. The estate retains some of the trees from the earlier Victorian houses.
There is still some Victorian houses along Monument Road. The estate is dominated by 10 high-rise blocks, also low-rise maisonettes. The area is landscaped with tennis courts and children's playgrounds.
There used to be a house here called The Hawthorns (demolished) at the junction of Ladywood Road and Monument Road. Built in 1828 by R W Winfield, an early brass manufacturer whose works was on Cambridge Street.
The estate was named after Joseph Chamberlain (1836 - 1914), former Mayor of Birmingham (from 1873 to 1876).
During 2020 to 2021, Birmingham City Council had refurbished Chamberlain Gardens, railings installed in 2020, and new gates installed by 2021.
