In brief
One of the oldest theatre companies in the City Centre, having been founded back in 1924. They have had three theatre locations, first at The Crescent, Cambridge Street (1932 - 1964), then on Cumberland Street (1964 - 1998), and finally at their current home on Sheepcote Street (1998 to present).

The Crescent Theatre - history
The Crescent Theatre Company began as the Municipal Players in 1924.
Their first theatre was a converted building, formerly Baskerville Hall at The Crescent on Cambridge Street. This opened in 1932.
Purpose built premises were built on Cumberland Street in 1964, designed by the architect Graham Winteringham of S. T. Walker and Partners, with seating capacity of 296.

The foundation stone of their third building was laid in 1997 by the then Member of Parliament for Ladywood, Clare Short. It was opened in 1998 by Celia Imrie. The building was designed by Terry Farrell and John Chatwin.
